All about our wedding!

The date: October 25th, 2008 (the last Saturday in October). That's Tikimt 15, 2001 in the Ethiopian Calendar (the second month of the year), so we're just a bit too late to call it a 'millennium wedding'!
The location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The exact venue is yet to be decided. We may have an afternoon event in one of Addis Ababa's many public gardens.
Terri's guide to basic Amharic - some key phrases to get you by while in Ethiopia!
Discussion forum - this is an online discussion area for you to discuss and share travel tips, ideas and suggestions for the trip to Ethiopia.
New links - post-wedding info!
- Melaku Belaye (the asmari musicians at the wedding) is our friend and a well-known performer both in Ethiopia and abroad. His group of asmari musicians, singers & dancers performed at our wedding. He frequently goes on tour in Europe with The Ex band - visit Melaku's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/melakufendika to get more information and see some video of his dancing!
- The jewellery worn by the bride and bridesmaids was custom-designed and hand-made by Tigist & Haimanot. They're not doing online ordering just yet but I can order for you if you want to have your own special piece!

This site is for family and friends, so we can keep you updated on the wedding plans. In due course, it'll tell you about the wedding itself - what we plan to do and what you need to know if you're coming over for it. We're still working out the details, but to give you an idea of what usually happens in Ethiopa, see the description of a traditional Ethiopian wedding!
For those travelling from Ireland to Ethiopia for the wedding, there's some information on practicalities such as visas and vaccinations. We'll also give you some information about visiting Ethiopia, to help you work out your own itinerary. We can help sort out accommodation bookings closer to the time; we'll add information about hotels as we check them out.
You'll probably spend at least a few days in Addis, so we've got some suggestions for things to do in Addis and how to get around Addis.
If you would like to donate to or help out local NGOs and charities in Ethiopia, we've provided some details about organizations we have connections with and/or that we support.
